After getting your vehicle ceramic coated, you do have to worry less about your paint degrading or getting damaged, but you still have to properly maintain the coating to a certain extent. Improper care will result in the coating failing before the advertised time. After spending a decent chunk of change and time to get your vehicle ceramic coated and possibly paint corrected, it wouldn’t be the best idea to stop caring about your vehicle and have that coating be ruined.

How can you tell if your ceramic coating is failing?

  1. Loss of shine/gloss

    • Overtime with improper care, your vehicle’s ceramic coating will lose its shine and gloss

  2. Reduced Hydrophobic properties

    • Along with loss of looks, the hydrophobic properties that ceramic coatings provide will start to deteriorate as well

  3. Exposure

    • As the ceramic coating deteriorates, it will start to get chipped and torn away by the sun, bird droppings, dirt, and other contaminants. This will expose the layer underneath and basically have no protection at all and therefore cause damage to your original factory paint or paint job overtime.

Here are some do’s and don’ts to properly maintain your Ceramic Coating that you should follow in order to achieve the full life of the ceramic coating. Keep in mind, some tips are recommendations and do not necessarily NEED to be followed, however other directions MUST be followed.

Maintenance Washes:

  • Wash vehicle at least once or twice a month with a Ph neutral car soap with no wax additives OR with a Sio2 infused car soap

  • Use the two bucket method (1 bucket with soapy water and 1 bucket to rinse wash mitt)

  • Avoid using too much pressure when doing the contact wash (do not scrub hard with wash mitt)

  • Dry with microfiber towels to avoid water spots

  • After vehicle is completely washed and dried, instead of applying a wax,  apply a “booster” Sio2 spray, ceramic spray, or any sort of after spray that is infused with Sio2

Important Tips:

  • DO NOT take your vehicle through the automatic car wash!

  • If possible keep vehicle stored in garage or under carport

  • If possible avoid parking under trees or street lights

    • This will reduce the amount of debris that falls on your vehicle such as tree sap, leaves, bird droppings, etc.

  • Always use dedicated cleaning/drying microfiber towels and tools for everything!

    • Use drying towels for drying, use dedicated cleaning tools for wheels!

    •  For example, don’t use the same microfiber towel you used to wipe off your wheel to dry any other part of the vehicle as this will drag dirt on to clean surfaces

  • Annual Check Up from Detailer who Applied the Ceramic Coating
